SAQ Training
. The purpose of SAQ training is to implement maximal force while performing high-speed movements.
. There are 3 types of training involved hence the SAQ title. (Speed, Agility, Quickness)
. The first type is Speed Training. The purpose is to improve the athlete's ability to go from a stationary state to maximum speed in a short period of time. Otherwise known as acceleration. Ex. running drills, mobility exercises. The second type is Agility. Agility is the ability to execute the components of movements successfully. Explosive starts, sudden stops, and abrupt changes of direction are the components of movement. Refers to the ability to maintain balance while the body is in different planes of motion at one time. Ex. forward, backward and lateral directional drills, shuttle runs, line sprints and cone drills.
. The last type is Quickness. Quickness refers to an athlete's reaction time. Drills to improve quickness should progress from "slow to fast, simple to complex, active to reactive and predictable to unpredictable. Ex. Medicine ball tosses, Plyometric push-ups, jump rope and ball drops with a partner. Drills should be performed two to three days a week.
