Resistance Training
. Resistance training has two purposes: 1. It improves your overall strength and 2. Develops muscle balance and prevents injury.
. The football season is divided into three major phases: Off-season- six months, In-season- five months, and Transition- one month
. During the off-season your objective should be to build your maximal strength, size and power.
. In-season strength training is about maintaining the strength gains you have developed over the off-season.
. The transition phase is about rest and recuperation.
. You need time off to let your body and mind fully recharge.
. Ex. Side step-ups, split squats, deadlifts, tricep extensions, hanging leg raises, lunges.
. You can use dumbbells and barbells to help with this type of training.
. Dumbbells' small size enables players to focus on specific muscles that would otherwise get overlooked with other methods of training.
. Dumbbells can be used in any environment.
. Barbells can help football players build strength and mass. They require a lot of open space and a set of free weights that can be added or subtracted from the bar.
. They are used for heavy exercises and can hold large amounts of weight on each end.
